Aswan and Abu Simbel Overnight Tour is a private 2-day tour planned for travelers who want to visit the main Aswan sightseeing sites and the Abu Simbel Temples with one night accommodation at a Nile-view hotel in Aswan. This tour covers Philae Temple, the Unfinished Obelisk, the Aswan High Dam, a sunset felucca ride, and Abu Simbel Temples with private air-conditioned transfers, private Egyptologist guide, entrance fees, hotel accommodation, meals as mentioned, bottled water, and pickup and drop-off included.

Aswan is one of the main cities of southern Egypt and an important gateway to Nubia, Lake Nasser, and Abu Simbel. Abu Simbel is located about 280 km / 174 miles south of Aswan, the Nubian City, with an approximate driving time of 3 hours to 3 hours 30 minutes each way, depending on road and operating conditions. This overnight tour gives travelers more comfortable timing than a rushed same-day Aswan and Abu Simbel program.

This Aswan and Abu Simbel Overnight Tour is one of the complete Aswan Tours for travelers who want to combine ancient temples, modern Nile engineering, Nubian history, Lake Nasser history, and Abu Simbel in one short program.

It is suitable for visitors searching for Aswan Trips, Aswan Excursions, Aswan Day Tours, Aswan Day Trips, Abu Simbel Tour from Aswan, and private Aswan overnight tours.

During Day 1, you will visit Philae Temple, one of the main temples in Aswan. The temple was dedicated mainly to Isis and dates mostly to the Ptolemaic and Roman periods, especially from the 4th century BC to the Roman period. The temple was relocated to Agilkia Island between 1972 and 1980 during the Nubian monuments rescue project after the construction of the Aswan High Dam.

You will also visit the Unfinished Obelisk, one of the most important ancient granite quarry sites in Egypt. The obelisk is usually connected with Queen Hatshepsut’s 18th Dynasty building projects around the 15th century BC. If completed, it would have measured about 42 meters / 138 feet long and weighed around 1,200 tons.

The tour also includes the Aswan High Dam, one of Egypt’s major modern engineering projects. The dam was built between 1960 and 1970 to control Nile floods, improve irrigation, generate hydroelectric power, and create Lake Nasser. The dam is about 3,830 meters / 12,565 feet long, and Lake Nasser extends for about 500 km / 310 miles southward between Egypt and Sudan.

The program includes a sunset felucca ride on the Nile in Aswan. The Nile River is about 6,650 km / 4,130 miles long and was central to ancient Egyptian agriculture, transport, trade, and daily life. The felucca ride gives you views of the Nile River, riverbanks, local boats, islands, and the Aswan landscape before your overnight stay.

During Day 2, you will visit to the Abu Simbel Temples, built by Pharaoh Ramses II during the 19th Dynasty in the 13th century BC. The temples were relocated in the 1960s during the UNESCO Nubian monuments rescue campaign to protect them from the rising waters of Lake Nasser.

You will also visit the Great Temple of Ramses II, dedicated to Ramses II and the gods Amun, Ra-Horakhty, and Ptah. The temple is famous for its four seated colossal statues of Ramses II on the facade, each about 20 meters / 66 feet high.

The tour also includes the Small Temple of Queen Nefertari, dedicated to Queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor. The temple facade includes six standing statues, about 10 meters / 33 feet high, showing Ramses II and Queen Nefertari.

These sites and activities are among the main Aswan Attractions and Lake Nasser Attractions for travelers visiting southern Egypt. They give clear context about ancient temples, granite quarrying, Nile engineering, Nubian history, Lake Nasser, and the Abu Simbel relocation project.

WOW Egypt Tours arranges this private Aswan and Abu Simbel Overnight Tour with clear organization and direct sightseeing. The tour includes private transfers inside Aswan, private transfers from Aswan to Abu Simbel and back, private Egyptologist guide during sightseeing, accommodation for 1 night at a Nile-view hotel in Aswan, entrance fees to the mentioned sightseeing sites, breakfast box, lunch on Day 1, dinner on Day 1, sunset felucca ride, bottled water, and all service charges and taxes.

Package Itinerary

1 Day 1: Aswan Sightseeing Sites and Felucca Ride

Pickup

Your WOW Egypt Tours representative and driver will pick you up from your hotel, Nile Cruise, Aswan Airport, Aswan Train Station, or your location in Aswan. You will be transferred by private modern air-conditioned vehicle with your private Egyptologist guide to begin your Aswan sightseeing tour.

Philae Temple

Start your tour with a visit to Philae Temple, one of the most important temples in Aswan. The temple was mainly built during the Ptolemaic period from the 3rd century BC, with later additions during the Roman period, and was dedicated mainly to the goddess Isis.

Philae Temple was originally located on Philae Island and was later relocated to Agilkia Island after the construction of the Aswan High Dam. The relocation was part of the UNESCO Nubian monuments rescue campaign during the 1960s and 1970s, and the temple was moved between 1972 and 1980 to protect it from the rising waters of Lake Nasser.

During your visit, your private Egyptologist guide will explain the history of the temple, the relocation project, the role of Isis, and the religious importance of the site. You will reach the temple by motorboat and visit the main temple areas, including pylons, courtyards, chapels, columns, carved walls, and religious scenes connected with Isis, Osiris, and Horus.

Unfinished Obelisk

After visiting Philae Temple, continue to the Unfinished Obelisk, located in the ancient granite quarries of Aswan. The obelisk is usually connected with Queen Hatshepsut of the 18th Dynasty, around the 15th century BC, and would have been one of the largest obelisks ever made if completed.

During your visit, your guide will explain the quarrying techniques, the size of the obelisk, and why it was left unfinished after cracks appeared in the stone. The Unfinished Obelisk is about 42 meters / 138 feet long and would have weighed around 1,200 tons if completed. The site gives clear information about ancient Egyptian engineering, stone cutting, and the importance of Aswan granite in temple construction.

Lunch Time

Lunch is served at local restaurant.

Aswan High Dam

After lunch, continue to the Aswan High Dam, one of the most important modern projects in Egypt. The dam was built between 1960 and 1970 to control Nile flooding, improve irrigation, and generate hydroelectric power.

During your visit, your guide will explain the history of the Aswan High Dam, its effect on agriculture and electricity in Egypt, and its connection with Lake Nasser, one of the largest artificial lakes in the world. The Aswan High Dam is about 3,830 meters / 12,565 feet long, and Lake Nasser extends for about 500 km / 310 miles southward between Egypt and Sudan. You will also learn how the dam affected archaeological sites in Nubia and why several temples, including Philae Temple and Abu Simbel Temples, were relocated.

Check-in Your Nile-View Hotel

After completing the Aswan sightseeing visits, transfer to your Nile-view hotel in Aswan for check-in. The hotel stay gives you time to rest before continuing the sunset program.

Sunset Felucca Ride on the Nile

In the afternoon, enjoy a traditional felucca ride on the Nile River at sunset. The Nile River is about 6,650 km / 4,130 miles long and was central to ancient Egyptian agriculture, transport, trade, and daily life. The felucca ride gives you time to see the Nile River, riverbanks, local boats, islands, and sunset views in Aswan.

The route depends on wind and river conditions on the day of your tour. This activity is a useful addition to the overnight program for travelers who want a quiet Nile experience in Aswan.

2 Day 2: Abu Simbel Temples Tour

Early Morning Transfer to Abu Simbel

Early in the morning, your WOW Egypt Tours representative and driver will pick you up from your Nile-view hotel with a breakfast box. You will start the road journey from Aswan to Abu Simbel by private air-conditioned vehicle.

Abu Simbel is located about 280 km / 174 miles south of Aswan, and the driving time is usually around 3 hours to 3 hours 30 minutes each way, depending on road and operating conditions. During the transfer, you will travel through the desert road south of Aswan toward Lake Nasser and Abu Simbel.

Abu Simbel Temples

Upon arrival, visit the Abu Simbel Temples, one of the most important ancient Egyptian sites in Nubia. The temples were built by Pharaoh Ramses II during the 19th Dynasty, around the 13th century BC, and are among the most recognized monuments in Egypt.

The Abu Simbel Temples were carved into the rock on the western bank of the Nile south of Aswan. Today, they stand near Lake Nasser after being relocated to higher ground during the 1960s to protect them from the rising water caused by the construction of the Aswan High Dam. Lake Nasser extends for about 500 km / 310 miles southward between Egypt and Sudan.

Great Temple of Ramses II

Start your visit with the Great Temple of Ramses II, the larger of the two Abu Simbel temples. It was built by Ramses II during the 13th century BC and was dedicated to Ramses II himself and the gods Amun, Ra-Horakhty, and Ptah.

The temple facade is known for its 4 massive seated statues of Ramses II, carved directly into the rock. Each statue is about 20 meters / 66 feet high and represents royal power and the importance of Ramses II as one of the most powerful pharaohs of the New Kingdom.

Inside the temple, your private Egyptologist guide will explain the main halls, side chambers, relief scenes, and religious carvings. You will see scenes connected with royal offerings, military victories, gods, and the image of Ramses II as a powerful ruler. Ramses II ruled Egypt for about 66 years during the 19th Dynasty.

The Great Temple is also known for its solar alignment. Twice a year, around February 22 and October 22, sunlight reaches the inner sanctuary and illuminates statues inside the temple, except the statue of Ptah, who was connected with the underworld. Your guide will explain the meaning of this event and its importance in the temple design.

Small Temple of Queen Nefertari

Continue to the Small Temple of Queen Nefertari, built by Ramses II during the 13th century BC and dedicated to Queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor. This temple is one of the important examples of a major royal temple dedicated to a queen in ancient Egypt.

The facade includes standing statues of Ramses II and Queen Nefertari, with the queen shown at a similar scale to the king, which reflects her high status during his reign. The facade has 6 standing statues, about 10 meters / 33 feet high, showing Ramses II and Queen Nefertari.

Inside the temple, your guide will explain the scenes connected with Hathor, music, offerings, royal worship, and Queen Nefertari’s religious role. The temple gives important context about royal women, divine queenship, and the relationship between Ramses II, Nefertari, and Hathor.

UNESCO Relocation Project

Your guide will also explain the relocation of Abu Simbel Temples during the 1960s. The temples were moved to higher ground as part of the UNESCO Nubian monuments rescue campaign after the construction of the Aswan High Dam between 1960 and 1970 and the creation of Lake Nasser.

The relocation project is one of the most important archaeological rescue projects of the 20th century. The temples were cut into more than 1,000 large blocks, moved about 65 meters / 213 feet higher and around 200 meters / 656 feet back from their original location, then reconstructed in a new location that preserved their original appearance and orientation as much as possible.

Return Transfer to Aswan

After completing your visit to Abu Simbel Temples, return to Aswan by private air-conditioned vehicle. The return distance is about 280 km / 174 miles, and the journey usually takes around 3 hours to 3 hours 30 minutes, depending on road conditions.

Drop-off

After completing your Aswan and Abu Simbel Overnight Tour, you will be transferred to your hotel, Nile Cruise, Aswan Airport, Aswan Train Station, or your location in Aswan.

Aswan The Nubian City

Aswan City

Aswan The Nubian City
Aswan, the Nubian City, is the most beautiful, the most culturally rich, and the most personally captivating city in all of Upper Egypt, a destination that combines the extraordinary ancient heritage of the First Cataract region with the warmth and color of a living Nubian culture unlike anything else in the Nile Valley, all set against a natural landscape of such dramatic and romantic beauty that every traveler who reaches Aswan finds it the most memorable and most human of all the great cities along the Egyptian Nile. Situated at the southernmost point of Egypt proper, where the Nile passes over the black granite outcrops of the First Cataract and the desert landscape opens to reveal the granite boulders, blue water, felucca-dotted Nile, and the desert hills of the west bank, Aswan is a city that astonishes with the beauty of its setting, the depth of its history, and the extraordinary warmth and hospitality of its people. This extraordinary destination sits at the heart of some of Egypt's greatest travel experiences.

Philae Temple

Temple Of Philae

Philae Temple
The Temple of Philae is the most romantically situated and most hauntingly beautiful ancient monument in all of Egypt, a sacred island sanctuary rising from the blue waters of the Nile at the threshold of Nubia that has captivated every traveler who has approached it by boat since the earliest days of tourism in the ancient world. Located on the island of Agilkia within the reservoir created by the old Aswan Dam, just south of the city of Aswan in Upper Egypt and reached exclusively by short motorboat journey across the shimmering waters of the Nile, the Temple of Isis at Philae is the supreme example of Ptolemaic island temple architecture and the monument that most directly embodies the ancient Egyptian tradition of the divine island rising from the primordial waters of creation as the first act of the cosmic genesis. This extraordinary landmark sits at the heart of some of Egypt's greatest travel experiences.

The Unfinished Obelisk is one of the most extraordinary and most intellectually revelatory ancient monuments in all of Egypt, a destination that transforms every visitor's understanding of how the greatest works of ancient Egyptian stone architecture were actually conceived, planned, and executed. Located in the ancient granite quarries on the southern bank of the Nile in the city of Aswan in Upper Egypt, the Unfinished Obelisk lies precisely where the ancient quarrymen abandoned it more than three thousand years ago when a fatal crack appeared in the granite bedrock during the cutting process, leaving in the living rock the largest ancient Egyptian obelisk ever attempted, still attached to its parent rock on three sides and awaiting the final undercutting that would never come. This remarkable landmark sits at the heart of some of Egypt's most rewarding travel experiences.

High Dam
The Aswan High Dam is one of the most consequential engineering achievements of the 20th century, a monument of modern civilization that transformed the entire economy, ecology, and cultural landscape of Egypt and whose construction necessitated one of the most ambitious heritage rescue operations in the history of humanity. Located approximately 13 kilometers south of the city of Aswan in Upper Egypt at the First Cataract of the Nile, the Aswan High Dam stands as a defining landmark of modern Egypt, a structure that controls the annual Nile flood that shaped Egyptian civilization for more than five thousand years, generates a significant proportion of Egypt's electricity, and created behind its wall the vast artificial lake known as Lake Nasser that submerged the ancient homeland of Nubia and forced the relocation of hundreds of thousands of people and dozens of ancient monuments. This remarkable landmark sits at the heart of some of Egypt's most rewarding travel experiences.

Lake Nasser
Lake Nasser is one of the most extraordinary artificial landscapes in the world, a vast inland sea stretching approximately 550 kilometers through the ancient heartland of Nubia from the Aswan High Dam in the north to the Sudan border in the south, whose creation submerged one of the most historically rich and most culturally significant corridors of the ancient Nile Valley and whose shores now preserve the most remarkable collection of rescued ancient Nubian monuments available anywhere in Africa. Created by the construction of the Aswan High Dam between 1960 and 1970, Lake Nasser is simultaneously one of the most consequential environmental transformations in the modern history of the Nile Valley and one of the most concentrated and most exclusively accessible ancient heritage landscapes in the entire world, a destination that combines the dramatic natural beauty of the largest artificial lake in Africa with the incomparable cultural richness of the ancient Nubian civilization whose physical remains line both its shores in a succession of extraordinary ancient monuments visible only to travelers who undertake the complete Lake Nasser Cruise experience. Located approximately 280 kilometers south of Aswan on the western shore of Lake Nasser, near the border between Egypt and Sudan, the Abu Simbel Temples are one of the most famous ancient monuments in the entire world, recognized instantly by travelers from every country who have seen their image in books, museums, and films, and yet consistently described by those who visit them in person as far more overwhelming, far more emotionally powerful, and far more visually dramatic than any photograph or description had prepared them to expect. Your guide meets you directly at the dock, the itinerary is timed precisely to get you back well before all-aboard, and everything runs in a private vehicle with no waiting around. Just share your ship name, port of call, and docking time when you get in touch and we handle the rest.

Start with a message through our contact page, WhatsApp, or email at booking@WOWEgyptTours.com. From that first message you will deal with one dedicated advisor who designs the itinerary, answers every question, and manages your trip from start to finish. A deposit secures your dates and the balance can be paid before arrival or on arrival in Egypt, depending on the package. Your advisor confirms the available payment methods for your specific booking. There are no surprise charges along the way.

This is genuinely what we do best. Through our tailor-made experience, your advisor starts from scratch with your travel dates, the destinations you care about, the pace you prefer, your accommodation style, and your budget, then builds an itinerary around all of it. Want to add a sunrise hot air balloon over Luxor, a private yacht on the Nile, a marriage proposal at Abu Simbel, a family trip mapped around your children's interests, or a wheelchair-accessible route through the Pyramids? All of it is possible and all of it has been done before.

Think light, breathable, and modest. Loose cotton or linen clothing works brilliantly in the heat and dries fast. Inside temples, mosques, and religious sites, covered shoulders and knees are required, so a lightweight scarf or wrap folds into any bag and solves the problem instantly. Comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes matter more than you might expect as ancient surfaces are uneven. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are non-negotiable in summer. A small reusable water bottle is a good idea everywhere. For desert or Sinai trips, pack a warm layer as nights drop sharply once the sun goes down.
