1 Pickup

Start your tour with a visit to Memphis City, the ancient capital of Egypt. Memphis was founded around 3100 BC near the beginning of the dynastic period and became one of the most important political, religious, and administrative centers in ancient Egypt.

During your visit, your private Egyptologist guide will explain the history of Memphis, its connection with King Menes or Narmer, and its role as a capital city for early Egyptian kings. The site is located about 20 km / 12 miles south of central Cairo and includes important statues, monuments, and remains connected with different periods of ancient Egyptian history.

You will see the main open-air museum area, including major statues and archaeological remains that show the importance of Memphis as an ancient capital close to the pyramid fields of Sakkara, Dahshur, and Giza. Memphis was also connected with the god Ptah and remained an important religious center for thousands of years.

3 Sakkara Step Pyramid

Continue to Sakkara Step Pyramid, one of the most important ancient burial sites in Egypt. Sakkara served as the necropolis of Memphis and includes tombs, pyramids, mastabas, and monuments from different periods of Egyptian history.

The main highlight is the Step Pyramid of King Djoser, built during the 3rd Dynasty around 2630 BC. It was designed by Imhotep and is considered one of the earliest major stone structures in ancient Egypt. Dahshur is located about 40 km / 25 miles south of central Cairo and is closely connected with King Sneferu of the 4th Dynasty, around the 26th century BC. The site shows a major stage in the development of pyramid construction before the Great Pyramid of Khufu at Giza.
