Tour Itinerary

1 Pickup

Your WOW Egypt Tours representative and driver will pick you up from your hotel, Cairo International Airport, Giza hotel, or your location in Cairo or Giza. You will be transferred by private modern air-conditioned vehicle with your private Egyptologist guide to begin your Memphis, Sakkara and Dahshur Tour.

2 Memphis City

Start your tour with a visit to Memphis City, the ancient capital of Egypt. Memphis was founded around 3100 BC near the beginning of the dynastic period and became one of the most important political, religious, and administrative centers in ancient Egypt.

During your visit, your private Egyptologist guide will explain the history of Memphis, its connection with King Menes or Narmer, and its role as a capital city for early Egyptian kings. The site is located about 20 km / 12 miles south of central Cairo and includes important statues, monuments, and remains connected with different periods of ancient Egyptian history.

You will see the main open-air museum area, including major statues and archaeological remains that show the importance of Memphis as an ancient capital close to the pyramid fields of Sakkara, Dahshur, and Giza. Memphis was also connected with the god Ptah and remained an important religious center for thousands of years.

3 Sakkara Step Pyramid

Continue to Sakkara Step Pyramid, one of the most important ancient burial sites in Egypt. Sakkara served as the necropolis of Memphis and includes tombs, pyramids, mastabas, and monuments from different periods of Egyptian history.

The main highlight is the Step Pyramid of King Djoser, built during the 3rd Dynasty around 2630 BC. It was designed by Imhotep and is considered one of the earliest major stone structures in ancient Egypt. The Step Pyramid rises in 6 stepped layers and originally reached about 62 meters / 203 feet high.

During your visit, your guide will explain the development from mastaba tombs to pyramid construction, the role of Sakkara in the history of ancient Egyptian architecture, and the importance of the Step Pyramid complex in understanding the beginning of pyramid building.

Sakkara gives clear context about early royal burial traditions, Old Kingdom architecture, and the connection between Memphis, royal tombs, and the development of pyramid complexes before the later pyramids at Dahshur and Giza.

4 Lunch Time

Lunch is served at local restaurant.

5 Dahshur Pyramids

After lunch, continue to Dahshur, one of the important royal necropolises south of Cairo. Dahshur is located about 40 km / 25 miles south of central Cairo and is closely connected with King Sneferu of the 4th Dynasty, around the 26th century BC. The site shows a major stage in the development of pyramid construction before the Great Pyramid of Khufu at Giza.

During your visit, your private Egyptologist guide will explain the history of the Dahshur Pyramids and their role in the transition from the Step Pyramid form to the true smooth-sided pyramid form.

The main highlights include the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid. The Bent Pyramid was built for King Sneferu and is known for its unusual change in angle during construction. The Red Pyramid, also built for Sneferu, originally reached about 105 meters / 344 feet high and is considered one of the earliest successful true pyramids in ancient Egypt.

Entry inside available pyramids can be added if permitted and available on the day of your visit. Dahshur gives clear context about Old Kingdom royal burial architecture, pyramid engineering, and the development stage between Sakkara and Giza.

6 Drop-off

After completing your Memphis, Sakkara and Dahshur Tour, you will be transferred back by private air-conditioned vehicle to your hotel, Cairo International Airport, Giza hotel, or your location in Cairo or Giza.

Cairo City

Capital Of Egypt

Cairo City
Cairo, the Egyptian capital whose Arabic name Al-Qahira, meaning the Victorious or the Overwhelming, was bestowed upon it by the Fatimid astrologers who identified the planet Mars as the dominant celestial body rising at the exact moment of the city's auspicious founding on the 6th of Ramadan in 969 CE, is the most extraordinary, the most historically layered, the most personally overwhelming, and the most completely inexhaustible single heritage destination available at any capital city in the complete African and Middle Eastern world, a city of such completely extraordinary historical depth, such completely unprecedented heritage variety, and such completely personal urban vitality that every serious traveler who engages with it discovers not simply a city to visit but an entire civilizational universe to explore, a place where the monuments of the most ancient of the world's great civilizations, the pharaonic civilization of the ancient Nile Valley whose greatest and most personally extraordinary surviving monuments at the Giza Pyramids Complex rise above the city's western desert edge with a quality of personal ancestral grandeur that no other surviving ancient monument on earth can equal, exist within the same metropolitan horizon as the supreme masterpieces of medieval Islamic architecture in the historic Islamic Cairo district whose extraordinary density of Fatimid, Mamluk, and Ottoman mosques, mausoleums, palaces, and markets gives it the most completely extraordinary medieval Islamic urban heritage of any accessible heritage city in the complete African and Middle Eastern world, and as the oldest continuously active Christian community in the complete African heritage record at the Old Cairo Coptic district whose ancient churches, ancient synagogue, and ancient mosque within the same walking-distance heritage enclosure give Cairo its most completely personal and its most completely affecting expression of the extraordinary historical coexistence of the three primary Abrahamic religious traditions in the ancient Nile Valley civilization. Cairo's population of more than 20 million inhabitants in the complete metropolitan area makes it simultaneously one of the largest cities in Africa, one of the most historically significant urban centers in the complete world, and the most personally extraordinary single destination available to any heritage traveler whose specific combination of ancient, medieval, and living contemporary urban heritage gives the Egyptian capital a quality of total heritage experience whose specific depth, variety, and personal human vitality is simply without parallel at any other accessible destination in the complete world. Memphis City

City Of Memphis

Memphis City
Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt and one of the most historically consequential cities in the entire history of human civilization, is a site of extraordinary archaeological significance and extraordinary personal heritage impact located at the modern village of Mit Rahina approximately 24 kilometers south of central Cairo on the western bank of the Nile Valley, whose position at the apex of the Nile Delta at the precise geographical junction between the narrow Nile Valley of Upper Egypt and the broad fan of the Delta of Lower Egypt gave it the strategic geographical centrality that made it the most natural and the most logistically practical location for the administrative capital of the unified Egyptian pharaonic state across more than three thousand years of continuous ancient Egyptian civilization. Memphis was the first great city of the unified pharaonic Egypt, founded by the legendary pharaoh Menes, identified by most Egyptologists with the historical Narmer whose extraordinary Narmer Palette in the Egyptian Museum documents the unification of Upper and Lower Egypt in approximately 3100 BCE, whose choice of the junction point between the Two Lands as the site of the new unified state's administrative capital established Memphis as the most important city in Egypt for the complete Old Kingdom period of pharaonic civilization and made it the primary political, administrative, religious, and commercial center of the ancient Egyptian world in the most consequential and the most culturally productive three centuries of the Old Kingdom that produced the extraordinary pyramid building programme of the Giza Pyramids Complex and the extraordinary Saqqara Step Pyramid as the most spectacular and the most enduring monuments of ancient Egyptian administrative, religious, and technological ambition.

Saqqara Step Pyramid

Saqqara

Saqqara Step Pyramid
The Saqqara Step Pyramid is the most historically consequential, the most architecturally revolutionary, and the most personally extraordinary ancient building in the complete Egyptian heritage landscape after the Great Pyramids themselves, the world's oldest monumental stone building constructed approximately 2667 to 2648 BCE by the brilliant ancient Egyptian architect, physician, and statesman Imhotep for the pharaoh Djoser of the Egyptian Old Kingdom 3rd Dynasty, a monument whose creation represented the single most dramatic and the most completely consequential architectural leap forward in the history of the ancient world, the transformation of the ancient Egyptian royal funerary tradition from the flat-topped rectangular mudbrick mastaba tomb of the Early Dynastic period into the soaring six-stepped limestone pyramid of 60 meters in height that stands on the Saqqara desert plateau approximately 27 kilometers south of Cairo as the direct and the most immediately legible architectural ancestor of the supreme pyramid achievements of the Giza Pyramids Complex whose extraordinary smooth-sided perfection was reached only two generations later in the revolutionary sequence of architectural development that Imhotep's Step Pyramid inaugurated. The Saqqara Step Pyramid is not simply the world's oldest pyramid; it is the world's oldest monumental structure built entirely of cut stone, the first time in the complete history of human civilization that any builder or any civilization attempted to construct a building of this physical scale entirely from quarried and dressed stone rather than from the mudbrick, timber, and rubble fill that all previous ancient monumental construction had used, a first whose specific historical significance in the development of the complete human architectural tradition is greater than any comparable architectural innovation in any subsequent period of the history of construction.

Dahshur Pyramids

Dahshur Pyramids

Dahshur Pyramids
The Dahshur Pyramids are the most architecturally informative, the most historically consequential, and in the specific context of understanding the complete evolutionary development of the ancient Egyptian pyramid building tradition the single most important and the most personally illuminating pyramid monuments accessible at any heritage site in the complete Greater Cairo area, a complex of royal pyramid monuments built primarily by the pharaoh Sneferu, founder of the Egyptian Old Kingdom 4th Dynasty and father of Khufu the builder of the Great Pyramid of Giza, on the desert plateau of the Dahshur necropolis approximately 40 kilometers south of central Cairo in a location whose relative remoteness from the tourist infrastructure of the northern Giza and Saqqara sites gives it a quality of desert isolation and personal archaeological immediacy that the more heavily visited northern pyramid sites cannot provide in the same undiluted and the same personally affecting form. The Dahshur pyramids are the crucial architectural missing link between the Saqqara Step Pyramid, the world's oldest complete monumental stone building whose six-stepped form represents the starting point of the ancient Egyptian pyramid building tradition, and the supreme smooth-sided true pyramids of the Giza Pyramids Complex whose perfection of geometric form and astronomical precision are the most universally recognized ancient architectural achievements in the history of the world, with the extraordinary Bent Pyramid of Sneferu providing the most completely extraordinary and the most personally instructive single ancient monument demonstration of the specific moment of architectural transition between the stepped and the smooth-sided pyramid form in the complete ancient Egyptian building tradition.

Frequent Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most asked questions.

This FAQ covers core Egypt travel facts: visa on arrival and e-visa options, safety and health basics, average trip costs and cash/card tips, best months by region, what to wear and pack, local customs and public holidays, weather by season, official language and useful phrases, mobile data/Wi-Fi and SIM cards, transport (flights, trains, taxis, ride-hailing), tipping norms, and guidance for solo travelers and families. Use it to plan quickly and avoid surprises.

Getting into Egypt is genuinely easy. Most nationalities receive a 30-day visa on arrival at Cairo, Luxor, and Hurghada airports for just USD 30, paid in cash at the bank counter before immigration. If you prefer to sort it before you fly, Egypt's official e-Visa takes 3 to 5 business days and costs the same amount. Your passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months from your travel date. When you book with WOW Egypt Tours, your dedicated advisor confirms your exact visa route before anything else, so there is no guesswork on your end.

Absolutely. WOW Egypt Tours specialises in shore excursions from Egypt's main cruise ports including Alexandria for Cairo and the Pyramids, Port Said for Cairo, Safaga for Luxor and the Valley of the Kings, and Sokhna. Your guide meets you directly at the dock, the itinerary is timed precisely to get you back well before all-aboard, and everything runs in a private vehicle with no waiting around. Just share your ship name, port of call, and docking time when you get in touch and we handle the rest.

Start with a message through our contact page, WhatsApp, or email at booking@WOWEgyptTours.com. From that first message you will deal with one dedicated advisor who designs the itinerary, answers every question, and manages your trip from start to finish. A deposit secures your dates and the balance can be paid before arrival or on arrival in Egypt, depending on the package. Your advisor confirms the available payment methods for your specific booking. There are no surprise charges along the way.

This is genuinely what we do best. Through our tailor-made experience, your advisor starts from scratch with your travel dates, the destinations you care about, the pace you prefer, your accommodation style, and your budget, then builds an itinerary around all of it. Want to add a sunrise hot air balloon over Luxor, a private yacht on the Nile, a marriage proposal at Abu Simbel, a family trip mapped around your children's interests, or a wheelchair-accessible route through the Pyramids? All of it is possible and all of it has been done before.

Think light, breathable, and modest. Loose cotton or linen clothing works brilliantly in the heat and dries fast. Inside temples, mosques, and religious sites, covered shoulders and knees are required, so a lightweight scarf or wrap folds into any bag and solves the problem instantly. Comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes matter more than you might expect as ancient surfaces are uneven. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are non-negotiable in summer. A small reusable water bottle is a good idea everywhere. For desert or Sinai trips, pack a warm layer as nights drop sharply once the sun goes down.
